Arriving officers found a man with gunshot wounds outside the convenience store. He was pronounced dead by emergency medical workers, El-Ashkar said.

About 10 minutes after the initial call, another one came in at the nearby Greenleaf Apartments in the 5300 block of Williamsburg Court.

Responding officers found a man inside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A person of interest was in custody in both homicides, El-Ashkar said. Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the scene Wednesday morning collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Anyone with information about the homicides are asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Information leading up to an arrest could result in up to $25,000 cash reward.
