Man sought after deadly shooting in Kansas City has been taken into custody
A man who authorities sought this month in connection to a fatal shooting in Kansas City has been taken into custody.
An arrest warrant was issued for Ivan D. Mock, 32, of Kansas City, Kansas, after Jackson County prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. The charges were filed in connection to the April 12 shooting death of Daniel L. Washington in Kansas City.
Mock is accused of shooting Washington, 33, inside an SUV in front of three other people in the 4000 block of Agnes Avenue. Washington was described in court records as the father of children he shared with Mock’s girlfriend.
The woman, a witness to the killing, told police she saw Mock pull out a handgun and fire several shots shortly after walking up to the vehicle and noticing the other passengers.
The woman said she drove away to seek help and flagged down a Kansas City police officer she saw in the area of 39th and Main streets. Additional police officers were called to the area shortly after 3 a.m. Washington was soon pronounced dead.
Prosecutors filed charges against Mock on April 17. He was taken into custody this week and remains in the Jackson County jail with bond set at $350,000 cash. The court has appointed the public defender’s office to represent him in the case.
