Overland Park man charged with murder in fatal shooting near Johnson County library

An Overland Park resident was charged with murder Monday in the Wednesday fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man near a Johnson County Library branch, prosecutors said.

Dvonte Brown, 27, was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Micah Babick, of Prairie Village, according to Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe.

Babick was shot and killed just before 9 p.m. in a parking lot in the 9800 block of West 87th Street in Overland Park, near the Johnson County Central Resource Library, according to police.

A red vehicle linked to the shooting left the crime scene heading east on 87th Street, Overland Park Police Department spokesman John Lacy said at the time. The car was driven by a man in his 20s with dreadlocks, Lacy said.

The victim’s brother witnessed the shooting, police said.

Brown was arrested Saturday, court records show. His bond was set at $1 million, the district attorney’s office said.

He did not yet have an attorney listed in court records who could be reached for comment.
