Man fatally shot near library in Overland Park Wednesday night

Update: Overland Park police released additional information Thursday morning identifying the victim and correcting the victim’s age.

Overland Park police were investigating a shooting Wednesday night that left a man dead near the Johnson County Central Resource Library.

Police were called to investigate the shooting just before 9 p.m. in the 9800 block of West 87th Street, according to Officer John Lacy, an Overland Park police spokesman. The victim was found dead in a parking lot near the library.

The victim has been identified by police as 29-year-old Micah Babick. Police initially reported he was 19. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to Lacy, the victim’s brother witnessed the incident. He is expected to be interviewed by police.

A vehicle linked to the shooting, described as a red sedan, left the scene traveling east on 87th Street, Lacy said. Police said the car was driven by a person described as a black man in his 20s with short dreadlocks, wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.

No arrests have been announced, and police were still investigating what led up to the shooting late Wednesday night.
