Police investigate possible impairment of driver in wrong-way crash in Kansas City

The driver of a white Chevrolet Blazer allegedly headed the wrong way on U.S. 40 and crashed into another vehicle Saturday evening, critically injuring that driver, Kansas City police said.

Police said they are investigating whether the driver of the Blazer was impaired at the time of the life-threatening crash.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. along US. 40 highway and Fremont Road in eastern Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver of the white Chevrolet Blazer allegedly was headed west in the eastbound lanes when it collided with the right front of a blue Saturn. The crash caused the Blazer to overturn, police said.

The driver of the Saturn suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, while the driver headed the wrong way had injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
