Shooting in Kansas City apartment leaves one man dead; two suspects seen fleeing
Police were investigating a homicide after a man was killed in a shooting early Sunday at an apartment building in Kansas City.
Police responded shortly after 1 a.m. to reports of the shooting at an apartment building in the 8000 block of Campbell. Arriving officers found the victim inside an apartment and began rendering aid, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for Kansas City police, said in an email.
The man died from his wounds inside the apartment, police said.
A caller told police that two unknown people arrived at the apartment and shot the victim before fleeing in an unknown direction.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were collecting evidence at the scene.
Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté posted photos of the scene on Twitter, writing “Another family will never be the same.”
The man’s death is Kansas City’s 44th homicide of the year, according to statistics kept by The Star. That compares with 38 homicides by this time last year.
Metro-wide, there have been 60 homicides reported in 2020.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043, or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). There is a reward of up to $25,000 for the information leading to an arrest.
