One dead, one in custody in overnight shooting on Troost. It’s 43rd homicide this year

One person is dead and one is in police custody after a shooting at a gas station at 59th Street and Troost Avenue early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the area just after 1 a.m., said Kansas City Police Department spokesman Jacob Becchina in an email.

When they arrived, they found an adult woman with gunshot wounds dead inside a car, Becchina said.

A person of interest was arrested Saturday morning and police said they are not looking for any additional suspects.

Police did not provide details about the victim or suspect.

The shooting is the 43rd homicide in Kansas City this year according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 38 by this time last year.
