Tactical officers enter home and take man into custody to end standoff in Kansas City
Tactical officers ended a 3 1/2 hour police standoff Tuesday after a man might have fired a gun inside a Kansas City, North, home during a disturbance, police said.
No one was injured in the standoff, and tactical officers were able to take the man into custody without incident, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City police spokesman, said in an email.
Officers responded about 2:45 a.m. to the home in the 11800 block of North Belmont Avenue on reports of a disturbance between family members. A caller told dispatchers that a man was arguing with several family members and was threatening to hurt himself and possibly others, Becchina said.
During the argument, the man might have fired one or more shots inside the home. No one was injured by the gunfire and most of the family members were able to flee to safety and contact police, Becchina said.
However, an older man in a separate part of the home was not able to get out. Police surrounded the home and attempted to get the armed man to come out.
Tactical officers and negotiators responded to try to get the man to surrender.
About 6:15 a.m., tactical officers entered the home and took the man into custody without incident. He was not injured. The older man was unharmed as well, Becchina said.
