Man in custody after ‘periodic gunshots’ fired from Lenexa motel balcony, police say

A man was taken into custody early Monday after gunshots were fired off a balcony at a motel in Lenexa, according to police.

Officers responded to shots fired about 3:45 a.m. in the 9700 block of Lenexa Drive, where a witness reported hearing “periodic gunshots” throughout the evening, according to the Lenexa Police Department.

More gunshots were heard when officers arrived in the area, police said. A perimeter was set up until officers determined the gunshots were being fired from a second-floor balcony at the nearby Motel 6.

Two hours after they were called to the scene, officers took a man into custody. He was not identified in the police statement.

No one reported being wounded in the shooting.

In a post on Twitter, the department said the incident highlighted the “bravery that police officers around the country demonstrate on a daily basis while serving their respective communities.”
