Detectives investigate killing after man found shot Sunday outside Kansas City store
Detectives are investigating a homicide Sunday after a man was found shot just outside a convenience store near East Ninth Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, according to police.
Officers responded to the shooting just before 4:30 p.m. to the Xpress Mart where they found an unresponsive man, according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. He has not been identified publicly.
There was no suspect information available Sunday afternoon. The shooting remained under investigation, El-Ashkar said.
The killing marked at least the 27th homicide this year in Kansas City, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time last year, there had been 21 slayings.
