Shawnee man pleads guilty to blackmailing 13-year-old into sending nude photos online

A Shawnee man pleaded guilty Friday to child sex crimes after he was accused of threatening to kill a 13-year-old’s family if she did not send him nude photos of herself.

Logan P. Clements, 23, pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to electronic solicitation of a minor, blackmail and sexual exploitation of a child. Prosecutors dismissed two charges, one of rape and another of sexual exploitation of a child.

Clements was charged in January 2019 after the Overland Park 13-year-old’s parents found photos their daughter had sent, prosecutors said.

Clements had at that point allegedly arranged to meet the girl in person to have sex. Overland Park police used the teen’s account online to bring Clements to her house where they arrested him.

According to charging documents the two had met online and the girl had told Clements she was 18.

She told police that she sent photos out of fear, first when he threatened to find and kill her family and then again when he threatened to share the photos she’d already sent with her Facebook friends.

After his arrest Clements told police he initially thought the girl was 18 or 19 but later believed she was 14 or 16, according to court records.

Clements is scheduled to be sentenced on April 2.
