Missouri highway patrol trooper shoots driver after chase that started near Lone Jack

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper shot a man Monday after a car chase in Johnson County, Missouri, according to the state police agency.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., an officer with the Lone Jack Police Department began pursuing a vehicle on U.S. Highway 50 for a traffic violation, said Sgt. Andy Bell, a spokesman for the highway patrol.

The chase continued for several miles into Johnson County and troopers deployed stop sticks.

The vehicle struck the spikes and crashed into a ditch.

The driver allegedly exited the vehicle with a gun “and presented it in a threatening manner,” the highway patrol said. A trooper shot the man.

The man was transported by air ambulance to a Kansas City hospital. Bell said he did not know the man’s condition.

The trooper was not injured.
