Passenger ejected, killed when car crashes while fleeing from police in Kansas City

A car fleeing from police crashed late Saturday, killing a male passenger who was ejected and injuring the driver and another passenger, Kansas City police said.

The deadly crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of Lister Avenue.

An officer attempted to stop a gold Chevrolet Impala near 27th Street and Elmwood Avenue. The driver of the car, however, refused to stop and sped away, police said.

As the car fled north on Lister, the driver lost control near 26th Street and the car left the road, striking a tree and a stone wall. A passenger was ejected in the crash and died at the scene, police said.

The driver and another passenger were injured in the crash and were taken to a hospital. They were said to be in stable condition Sunday, police said.

The identity of of the man killed in the crash has not been released.
