Police find baby unharmed in abandoned SUV after auto theft reported in Merriam

A baby who was taken when a man stole a vehicle Wednesday was found unharmed, police in Merriam said.

Merriam police responded about 8:50 a.m. to the 5100 block of Merriam Drive on the theft of a silver Acura SUV containing a nine-month-old.

The vehicle was located about 20 minutes later in the 1800 block of State Line Road. The SUV had been abandoned with the child still inside.

The suspect was described as a man in his late 20s with a beard. He was wearing a dark-colored coat, police said.

He may have been followed by a second person in a black pickup truck.
