Driver arrested in Kansas City, Kansas, hit-and-run that injured 7th grader

A driver who hit a child with a vehicle and fled the scene Monday in Kansas City, Kansas, has been arrested, police said.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the South 5500 block of Osage Avenue.

A driver in a dark-colored vehicle that was traveling on South 55th struck a 13-year-old who was attempting to cross the street.

According to a social media post by the Turner School District, the child is a Turner Middle School student.

District spokesman Doug Powers said the 7th grader was about five blocks from the school and was walking home. The incident occurred near the district’s administrative center.

The driver fled, but was later arrested, the police department said.

“I’m encouraged that the driver has been taken into custody,” Powers said.

The child was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
