Woman found dead inside south KC home; homicide investigation underway

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead inside south Kansas City home Friday afternoon.

According to a statement from Kansas City police, officers were called just after 3 p.m. to the 300 block of West 98th Street in regard to a welfare check.

Upon entering the home, the body of a woman was located, police said.

Police also said an unresponsive man was found in the home. He was taken to a hospital and was said to be in stable condition.

Police have not released information on injuries or what caused the woman’s death but said they were investigating the incident as a homicide, the fifth one reported in the city this year. A police spokeswoman told The Star further details were not yet available Friday evening.

Crime scene investigators were processing the scene, and detectives were canvassing the area for any witnesses, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477.

A reward up to $25,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest.
