High-speed police chase ends in wreck Tuesday in Overland Park

The Kansas Highway Patrol pursued two burglary suspects in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash Tuesday in southern Overland Park.

The suspects allegedly drove in the wrong lanes, onto sidewalks and through a fence before crashing into a tree along 127th Street just east of Nieman Road. The chase reached speeds of about 60 mph through residential neighborhoods and up to 80 to 85 mph on major thoroughfares, according to radio traffic.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a message on Twitter that the patrol had taken over the chase and troopers pursued two burglary suspects driving a stolen truck.

“Troopers attempted a tactical vehicle intervention (TV) on the truck,” the tweet said.

Two suspects were arrested, the patrol said.

Overland Park police said on Twitter that eastbound 127th was shut down at Nieman and urged drivers to avoid area.
