Shooting in Kansas City Sunday leaves one with life-threatening head injuries

A person suffered life-threatening head injuries in a shooting Sunday morning in Kansas City, according to police.

Police officers were dispatched to a residence at 20th Street and Askew Avenue, where they found the victim lying in the driveway, said Capt. Tim Hernandez, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman.

No arrests have been made.

More than 480 people have been shot and survived this year in Kansas City. Detectives have cleared about 20 percent of nonfatal shootings, less than half the national solve rate for aggravated assaults, which includes such shootings.

The police department plans to double the number of detectives that investigate assaults to 24, the Board of Police Commissioners recently said.
