Woman killed Friday in Olathe stabbing; homicide investigation underway, police say

A 68-year-old woman died Friday morning after she was stabbed in an Olathe cul-de-sac, according to police.

Officers responded to an armed disturbance just before noon in the 10200 block of South Shadow Circle, where they found the woman with an apparent stab wound, according to Sgt. Joel Yeldell, a spokesman for the Olathe Police Department.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police were investigating her death as a homicide, Yeldell said.

Another woman, 38, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. She knew the victim, police said.

Detectives were in contact with everyone involved in the homicide, Yeldell said in a statement.

The slain woman has not been identified publicly.

Police asked anyone with information to call the department at 913-971-6950 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

The homicide marked the fourth this year in Olathe, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time last year, the city had recorded two killings.
