Man found shot and killed Sunday night inside Kansas City home

A man was found shot to death inside a Kansas City home Sunday night, police said.

Police responded to a shooting call about 9:30 p.m. at a home in the 3900 block of Bellefontaine Avenue. Arriving officers found a male victim inside the home who had been shot.

Emergency medical workers declared the man deceased at the scene, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email. Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence at the house in an attempt to determine what led up to the shooting.

No suspect information was available from police Monday morning, Becchina said.

Police later identified the man as Irving Perkins, 60.

The killing marked Kansas City’s 146th homicide this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time last year, the city had recorded 134 homicides.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).’
