Man found fatally shot Sunday in Kansas City, North, apartment

A man was found shot to death Sunday inside an apartment at the Northbrook Gardens Apartments and Townhomes in Kansas City, North, according to police.

Officers found the victim after they were sent to investigate the sound of shots being fired shortly before 1 p.m. in the 2000 block of Northeast 49th Street, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Arriving officers found the victim inside a unit. Emergency medical workers pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police later identified the man as Patrick Burt, 33.

One person was arrested, police said. Detectives were searching the area for witnesses while investigators processed the scene for evidence.

The killing marked Kansas City’s 145th homicide this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time last year, the city had recorded 134 homicides.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward up to $25,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
