KCPD patrol car rear-ended by speeding driver on Broadway, leaving two officers hurt

Two police officers suffered minor injuries early Friday after their parked patrol car was rear-ended by a motorist speeding at 29th Street and Broadway Boulevard, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The crash happened about 2:45 a.m. while the officers were attempting to have an abandoned vehicle towed. A motorist was southbound on Broadway when his vehicle hit the patrol car, according to police.

The motorist jumped out of the wrecked car and ran but was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Both officers were taken to a hospital.

The suspect was also treated at a hospital. His injuries were said to be minor.

Police are investigating whether the suspect was impaired at the time of the crash.
