Shooting near I-70 and Blue Ridge Cutoff leaves one dead at gas station

Shots fired inside a car Tuesday night left a man dead at a gas station near Interstate 70 and Blue Ridge Cutoff in Kansas City, police said.

Police were called to the shooting before 7 p.m. at East 40th Terrace and the Blue Ridge Cutoff, near Kauffman Stadium.

Detectives and officers investigating the shooting gathered at a BP gas station just across from the Truman Sports Complex.

It appeared the shooting happened inside a car carrying several people, police said. Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a police spokesman, said police weren’t sure Tuesday night where the car was exactly when the shooting took place, but said the driver pulled into the gas station for help.

Police officers arriving at the scene found a man inside the car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Police detained some people for questioning, and were not actively looking for suspects.

The death Tuesday night is the 45th homicide reported this year in the city.
