Man who shot into family’s car in Lenexa sentenced for attempted murder
A 29-year-old Overland Park man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for firing shots into an occupied car on a Lenexa street.
Devin Mason was sentenced in Johnson County District Court to five years and six months in prison for the shooting in January.
Three people were in the car, including a 12-year-old girl, but none were hit by bullets.
Mason pleaded guilty in August to three counts of attempted reckless second-degree murder.
The incident occurred in the area of College Boulevard and Pflumm Road.
A couple and their 12-year-old daughter were driving down the street when they saw Mason, whom they did not know, yelling and walking down the street.
They sped away when they noticed he was carrying a gun. As they drove off they could hear bullets striking their car, they reported.
Officers found Mason sitting on the ground and recovered a handgun on the ground nearby.
