A fundraiser has been set up to help pay for funeral and memorial expenses for a 10-year-old boy who was found dead after walking away from his Northland home in his sleep early Thursday.

The boy, Jackson Georgari, was found unresponsive in a pond about a mile south of his home in the Province of Briarcliff apartment complex in the 1100 block of Northwest Vivion Road, according to Kansas City Police. Fire and rescue workers attempted life-saving measures but could not revive the boy. He was declared dead at the scene, police said.

“Our hearts are shattered as we grieve the unexpected loss of our beloved Jackson,” according to a description of the fundraiser. “At just 10 years old, he brought so much love, laughter, and light into our lives. Jackson was always smiling, sharing his joy with everyone around him, and making even the toughest days brighter. He loved playing with his friends, spending time with family, and exploring the world with endless curiosity.”

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help cover funeral and memorial expenses, as well as other unexpected costs.

“We want to honor Jackson’s memory in a way that reflects the love and happiness he brought to all of us, but the financial burden is overwhelming,” the fundraiser says.

Kansas City police first reported the boy was missing early Thursday. Police said he had been known to sleepwalk and had done so early Thursday. Several agencies joined in a search for the boy Thursday, including the Kansas City Fire Department and police from Gladstone, Riverside and North Kansas City.

Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, said there were no immediate signs of foul play, but said police would investigate the death.

“We’re asking for support to help our family with these expenses so we can focus on celebrating Jackson’s life and being together as a family,” the fundraiser says. “Any donation, no matter the amount, will help relieve some of the financial stress and allow us to remember Jackson with the dignity and love he deserves.”

The fundraiser is available online. As of 1 p.m. Friday, it had raised $315 with a goal of more than $5,000.
