Kansas City police confirmed a 10-year-old boy who walked away from his Northland home in his sleep early Thursday was later found dead.

Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, told The Star that the boy, Jackson Georgari, was found unresponsive in a pond about a mile south of his home in the Province of Briarcliff apartment complex in the 1100 block of Northwest Vivion Road.

The boy’s cause of death was not immediately known. Becchina said there were no immediate signs of foul play, but said police would investigate the death.

Becchina said that officers searching the area after the boy went missing found him in a pond near the Village at Briarcliff complex, which is south of his home on North Mulberry Drive. Becchina said fire and rescue personnel attempted to revive the boy, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Kansas City police first reported the boy was missing around 2:15 a.m. Thursday and said he had last been seen two hours earlier, around midnight. Police said then that he had been known to sleepwalk and had done so early Thursday.

This story will be updated.
