A mobile luxury event lounge featuring a rooftop and VIP section made its debut last weekend in the West Bottoms.

“We’ve had pretty universally positive feedback,” co-owner Jake Harlow said. “It’s just been an exciting ride, and we’re pumped about all of it.”

Rolling Lounge KC was set up outside In the Lowest Ferns this weekend as part of the Fourth of July block party in the West Bottoms. What used to be a 40-foot storage container was flipped by owners Harlow and Nathan Wagner into an event space. It seats 24 people on the inside, with the ability to move it from place to place.

“Its uses are limitless. It’s really just up to your imagination,” said Harlow.

The gray storage unit sits atop a 50foot trailer that has a patio, with steps that reach the rooftop patio. Large doors, windows, tables and televisions fill up the inside.

Harlow and Wagner used the time in the West Bottoms to promote the new company, allowing block party attendees to enter freely with their food and drinks. They saw several people return throughout the night to enjoy the air conditioning and watch the live music from the rooftop.

“I can comfortably say, probably 500 people came on it, walked on it, got to enjoy it,” said co-owner Jake Harlow. “The faces were priceless.”

Rolling Lounge KC is set up to host VIP events, parties, corporate events, tailgates, and block parties between Lawrence and Columbia. Down the line, Rolling Lounge KC hopes to also host pop-up events, like during the holiday season.

“We spent a long time working on this, and the payoff so far has been extraordinary,” Harlow said. “Our friends and family kind of looked at us crazy when we said we were going to do this, but the universal reaction has pretty much been way more fabulous than I imagined it.”

The two worked on weekends for over half a year installing electrical, plumbing, a bathroom, air conditioning, TVs and a rooftop deck.

“I do have a fascination with shipping containers,” Wagner said. “They’re very versatile for a myriad of uses, and although we’ve been looking at building with them, we thought entertainment was a great blend of the two.”

Packages range from $3,500 to $7,500, according to Harlow and Wagner. The upper end of the price range includes setup, bartending services and concierge service. Until their website is up and running, inquiries can be made by sending a direct message to Rolling Lounge’s Instagram.
