Investigation ongoing after crash on U.S. 40 in Blue Springs kills one

One person died in a car crash on a Blue Springs highway Thursday, according to police.

Officers with the Blue Springs Police Department received a call regarding a car accident at Southwest 19th Street and U.S. 40 at 5:20 p.m., said Lt. Keegan Hughes, a spokesperson for the department.

The sole occupant of one vehicle had minor injuries, Hughes said.

There were two people in the second vehicle, Hughes said. The driver was declared dead after arriving at a hospital. The passenger was in critical condition Thursday evening.

The department did not release details on what might have led up to the crash. Officers were still at the scene investigating around 9 p.m. Thursday, Hughes said.
