15 people injured by fireworks during Fourth of July week, KC hospitals report
Two Kansas City area hospitals have reported 15 fireworks-related injuries as of Saturday afternoon, according to hospital officials.
The University of Kansas Hospital reported 10 injuries, which included finger, hand, eye, chest and leg injuries. The victims range from 4 to 46 years old. Patients were treated at the hospital’s campuses in Olathe, Liberty and its Burnett Burn Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Children’s Mercy Hospital reported treating five fireworks-related injuries since Monday. Victims range from 6 to 13 years old and suffered eye injuries from Roman candles, smoke bombs, and other fireworks.
