At least 10 people have been injured by fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday week, Kansas City hospitals report.

The University of Kansas Health System — including locations in Olathe, Liberty, Miami County and the Burnett Burn Center — reported six patients brought in as of 3 p.m. Thursday. Four victims were men and two were women, between the ages of 12 and 73, according to a news release.

Common injury locations were the face and hand, the release said, stemming mostly from firecrackers, smoke bombs and mortar.

Since Monday, Children’s Mercy has treated three injuries sustained by teenagers. Two were hand injuries and one was in the eye.

The Star will update this story with more injuries as they are announced.
