Kansas City woman charged with manslaughter in hit-and-run that left passenger dead
A Kansas City woman has been charged in connection to a fatal car crash last year, the Jackson County prosecutor announced Wednesday.
Shamika Wedlow faces counts of first degree involuntary manslaughter, second degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to a report of an injury hit-and-run crash on June 1, 2025, near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Prospect Avenue. Wedlow did not stop at a red light and collided with another car, then left the scene, detectives said.
When officers later located Wedlow’s car, they found three other passengers who were hospitalized for serious injuries, according to court records. A witness said Wedlow had drunk alcohol and smoked marijuana before driving, according to court records.
One of the passengers died from his injuries on June 9, 2025.
Her bond is set at $75,000.
