Scooter rider seriously injured in overnight hit-and-run in the Kansas City area

A person riding a scooter suffered “possibly life-threatening injuries” in an overnight hit-and-run in Independence, according to police.

The incident occurred about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 23rd Street and Woodbury Drive, according to a news release shared by Sgt. Steven Boles, Independence Police Department spokesperson.

An unknown vehicle was going west on 23rd Street when it hit a motorized scooter, the release said. The vehicle left the scene without anyone stopping to help the victim or report the crash, according to police.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where, as of about 4:40 a.m., he remained with “possible life-threatening injuries,” Boles said.

Independence Police did not immediately respond to questions about how the victim was found or the condition of the victim as of Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Independence Police Department.
