A Jackson County lottery winner plans to donate some of his winnings to charity after a massive win.

The player, whose name has not been released, won a $118,000 Show Me Cash jackpot prize in the May 30 drawing, according to Missouri Lottery. The ticket was purchased at Saver Food grocery store (also known as Metro Thriftway), 1616 E. 63rd St. in Kansas City, matching all five numbers drawn that night, which were 2, 24, 31, 32 and 33.

“I haven’t told a soul!” he told Missouri Lottery officials. “I’m gonna wait until it hits the bank account, then pay off a few bills and give some to charity.”

Missouri Lottery is required to withhold a 4% state tax on prizes of $600.01 or more, as well as a 24% federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Depending on their personal income, winners may owe additional taxes.

According to Missouri Lottery, retailers that sell winning Scratcher and Draw Games tickets receive a bonus that equals 2% of the prize up to $600 by meeting certain game and sales criteria.

In the 2025 fiscal year, Jackson County players won over $96.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received over $8.9 million in commissions and bonuses.
