Kansas City lottery player wins second jackpot in three years. See how much
They say to never say never. Well, a Kansas City lottery player thought he would never win the lottery again. Now history has repeated itself.
On April 13, Missouri Lottery announced that a Kansas City lottery player had won a $242,000 “Show Me Cash” prize in the March 26 drawing. However, winning the lottery was nothing new to him: He also won a jackpot prize in 2024.
“The first time I won, I said I’d never win it again,” the winner told Missouri Lottery. “I continued to play but only when the jackpot got over $200,000.”
The winning ticket was won at the QuikTrip on 4380 NW 90th St. in Platte County. The winner matched all five winning numbers, which were 17, 20, 25, 30 and 39.
Missouri Lottery is required to withhold a 4% state tax on prizes of $600.01 or more, as well as a 24% federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Depending on their personal income, winners may owe additional taxes.
According to Missouri Lottery, retailers that sell winning Scratcher and Draw Games tickets receive a bonus that equals 2% of the prize up to $600 by meeting certain game and sales criteria.
In the 2025 fiscal year, Platte County players won over $12.5 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received over $1.2 million in commissions and bonuses.
