Pedestrian hit by vehicle in East Side KC crash dies at hospital, police say
A pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle in Kansas City this week died at a hospital Thursday morning, police said.
Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of E. 31st Street and Mersington Ave on a reported crash involving a pedestrian.
They found a pedestrian in the area that had been struck by a vehicle. No information was immediately available about what led to the crash.
Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a hospital with injuries that police initially believed to be not life-threatening. However, hospital staff notified police the pedestrian was pronounced dead just after 11 a.m. Friday.
Police have not yet publicly identified the person who died.
The crash marks Kansas City’s 31st traffic death this year, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman. At this time last year, the city had recorded 25 traffic deaths.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian remained on scene and has cooperated in the investigation. The driver was not injured in the crash, police said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
