Two toddlers remain in critical condition Friday following a three-vehicle crash on a Douglas County highway on Wednesday night.

According to a social media post from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a 36-year-old woman from Edwardsville was driving a white Kia Optima west on K-10, near U.S. 59 and Iowa Street, around 9:45 p.m. when she entered the eastbound lane.

A 22-year-old man from Olathe driving a white Ford F-150 attempted to avoid the Kia and steered into the westbound lane, the post said. The driver of the Kia also steered into the westbound lane and the vehicles “collided head on.”

As the Ford came to a rest, a 19-year-old Overland Park woman in a car struck the passenger side of the truck, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The 36-year-old driver of the Kia and two children, ages 1 and 2, were transported to area hospitals, the post said. The two toddlers remain in critical condition Friday.

The sheriff’s office is investigating “the cause and contributing factors” of the crash, according to the post. A full crash report will be available “in coming days.”
