One person was taken to a hospital after Kansas City firefighters put out a blaze in an apartment overnight.

Crews responded just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 3400 block of Holmes Road. When they arrived, they couldn’t see any smoke or fire from outside the building, said Battalion Chief Riley Nolan, a Kansas City Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters went inside to investigate and found smoke on the third floor, Nolan said. They forced entry into a unit where they found a small fire on a stove top.

Paramedics transported one resident of the apartment to a hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.

Crews searched the rest of the apartment building and did not find fires anywhere else, Nolan said. A second occupant of the apartment building was evacuated during the search, but they were not taken to a hospital.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
