The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Ray County, Missouri, on Monday evening, according to a damage survey. The tornado touched down as a line of storms moved through the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The tornado touched down in Missouri City, south of Excelsior Springs, at 9:47 p.m. Monday, according to a damage survey from the weather service.

The tornado traveled just over 17 miles in about 20 minutes, reaching wind speeds up to 95 mph, the damage survey said. It dissipated at 10:06 p.m. in Russellville.

The twister “caused primarily tree damage along its path,” the weather service said, and impacted two properties in Ray County.

Damage was reported to power lines, trees and one building, according to the damage survey. An empty livestock trailer was rolled over.

“Widespread EF-1 tree damage” was noted near Reynolds Road and West 108th Street in Fishing River Township, the weather service said.

Kansas City’s next chance for rain is forecast for Thursday into Friday. No severe weather is expected.
