Lawrence police are still investigating a Thursday night shooting where two people were injured, and a suspect was taken into custody.

Officers responded to 16th and Haskell about 9:30 p.m., Thursday and located a man and woman who had been shot. First responders transported the two to a nearby trauma center, a news release from Lawrence police said.

Both are expected to “fully recover from their injuries,” the release said.

Police immediately secured the scene and began searching for a potential suspect, using drones and K-9 units as well as more than 40 law enforcement officers and assistance from other police agencies.

Detectives interviewed people throughout the evening and arrested a 19-year-old Lawrence man and booked him into jail around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact Douglas County Dispatch at (785) 843-0250 or call Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at (785) 843-TIPS (8477).
