Two people were hospitalized after a crash near E. 61st Street and Swope Parkway Friday morning, police said.

A driver is left with serious injuries after a single-car crash in Kansas City’s South Town Fork Creek neighborhood Friday morning.

Officers responded just before 7 a.m. to E. 61st Street and Swope Parkway, according to a crash log.

Early investigation details indicate the crash happened as a Mitsubishi Galant sedan sped west on E. 61st Street when it disregarded a stop sign at Swope Parkway.

The Mitsubishi then traveled across all lanes of Swope Parkway, a divided road, and hit two trees before coming to rest, according to the crash log.

Paramedics transported the driver to a hospital with serious injuries. A passenger was transported with injuries police believe to be not life-threatening.

Evidence at the scene led officers to investigate whether the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. No other details were immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
