One person died after a single-car crash in a south Kansas City residential neighborhood Thursday, police said.

Officers responded around 2:17 p.m. to Flora Avenue near 83rd Street in the Marlborough Heights neighborhood for a crash reported in front of a residence.

A preliminary investigation indicates the crash happened as a gray Honda Accord sped south on Flora Ave.

The Honda ran off the road to the right, traveled through a yard and struck a tree in front of a house on Flora Ave before coming to rest, according to a crash log.

Paramedics transported the driver to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Police have not yet publicly identified the person who died.

The crash resulted in Kansas City’s 28th traffic death this year, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a police spokeswoman.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
