There’s a new wrinkle in the ongoing guessing game of where and when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are getting married.

The most anticipated ceremony of the year will take place in New York City on July 3, the day before what is known as one of Swift’s most favorite holidays, Page Six reported Thursday.

The date, which we’ll call Independence Day Eve, allegedly comes from save-the-dates that have been sent out.

Earlier reports said the wedding would take place on June 13 — seemingly plausible because 13 is Swift’s favorite number.

It can’t be ruled out, however, that those early announcements were fake, meant to throw off the scent ... with details of the real event being planned with the secrecy of a covert military operation.

You may recall Chiefs general manager Brett Veach’s reaction when simply asked last week if he’d been invited to the wedding. He was visibly uncomfortable and later told ESPN’s Peter Schrager that he’d spill the beans about the Chiefs’ draft plans before talking about the couple’s nuptials.

Until now, published reports placed the wedding in Rhode Island, where Swift owns a large seaside estate. In August 2024, she hosted a gathering there for friends, who included Kelce, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, and husband-and-wife actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

But Swift is a New Yorker, too. She keeps a large home base in the hip TriBeCa neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, where Kelce has been seen since the couple began dating in 2023.

When she’s not lying low, as she has been during wedding prep, Swift is often photographed out and about New York with her celebrity friends. Brittany Mahomes has spent time in the city with her, too.

Swift and long-time close friend Ashley Avignone were seen on a dinner excursion Wednesday in New York. Swift looked bridal in a long, flowy white skirt of silk. Avignone wore white, too.

A few days ago, the Chiefs finalized their offseason workout dates — and that schedule seemed to fit the Rhode Island theory.

Kelce doesn’t take a half-hearted approach to his job as an NFL star, so the rumored June 13 date for his marriage to Swift would have fit the Chiefs’ offseason timeline. But when you step back and think it over, that would have been a bad idea.

The Chiefs said their offseason activities will begin in May and end with a mandatory minicamp, which will be held June 9-11. Kelce will give his all during the camp as he prepares for what most observers believe will be his final season.

The thought of taking part in football activities and then rushing to the East Coast to tie the knot wouldn’t make much sense.

And it wouldn’t be just Kelce who’d have to make that journey. Many of his teammates and others in the Chiefs organization have probably received invitations to the wedding.

Mahomes, who is one of Kelce’s closest friends on and off the field, is likely to be part of the wedding party. But he won’t be the best man, as that duty is undoubtedly going to Kelce’s big brother, Jason.

Another reason to believe the wedding will be held in early July: It would allow time for Kelce to get to training camp in St. Joseph. The Chiefs opened camp on July 22 a year ago, and that’s the approximate timeframe the team is looking at this summer, as well.

Other items on Kelce’s list before saying “I do” include the return of Kelce Jam, although dates have not been announced for the concert, and Tight End University. The latter event was held in late June a year ago in Nashville, and Swift took part in off-field fun.

And then there’s the matter of Kelce’s bachelor party. The New York Post said Kelce is planning a trip with his buddies to the Bahamas in late May. Mahomes, who is coming back from major knee surgery, is expected to join Kelce on the trip.

Page Six notes that Swift and Kelce would join celebrity couples Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, and Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber in tying the knot in the city that never sleeps.

New York will be bustling around July 3 in the midst of the city’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Historic tall ships will sail past the Statue of Liberty. Parades are planned. Fireworks will explode over rivers.

Thomas Jefferson’s handwritten Declaration of Independence will be on rare, public display at the New York Public Library.

But plans for a much-anticipated historic drop of the ball in Times Square — which usually happens on New Year’s Eve — were modified this week.

The ball-drop will no longer be open to the public. City officials restricted big events for safety reasons because festivities surrounding the nation’s birthday and the FIFA World Cup will coincide.

The crowd in Times Square will be limited now and attendees will need tickets to get in.
