Body, vehicle pulled from Smithville Lake in case tied to missing KC-area person

A body and vehicle were pulled from Smithville Lake in connection with a missing person case from the Kansas City area, a spokesman for the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday morning.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office, with the help of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recovered the vehicle with a body inside Tuesday morning from the water near Crow’s Creek boat ramp, said Capt. Jeffrey Shanks of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle is associated with an investigation into a missing person’s report that the Platte County Sheriff’s Office adopted from the Platte City Police Department, Shanks said.

The sheriff’s office has not confirmed the identity of the person found inside the vehicle and is waiting for the medical examiner’s report, Shanks said.

No foul play is currently suspected in the person’s death, Shanks said.
