Passenger dies, two injured in multi-vehicle crash on I-70 in Kansas City

One person died, and two others were critically injured in a four-vehicle crash during Tuesday evening’s rush hour on Interstate 70 near Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums in Kansas City, a police spokesperson said.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department’s accident investigation section and East Patrol Division responded to the crash, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. on eastbound I-70 near Stadium Drive, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that a silver Nissan Altima was headed east on I-70 and failed to stop for congested traffic near Stadium Drive, Gonzalez said. The Altima crashed into the rear of a black Nissan full-size van, triggering a four-vehicle collision.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and two people were taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The fatality is Kansas City’s ninth traffic death of the year.

The investigation into the crash remains under investigation, Gonzalez said.
