Two injured, one critically, in Kansas City crash with suspected impaired driver
The driver of a Jeep Cherokee suffered critical injuries after being thrown from the compact SUV, while a passenger was also injured in a rollover crash involving a suspected impaired driver Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, according to a police spokesperson.
The crash occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of East 43rd Street and The Paseo, Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department said.
A preliminary investigation found that a blue Jeep Cherokee was heading west on 43rd Street when it entered the intersection from a stop sign, Gonzalez said.
A white Chevrolet Equinox, traveling north on The Paseo at high speeds, crashed into the Jeep, causing it to overturn and ejecting the driver, Gonzalez said.
Emergency medical crews transported the Jeep’s driver to a hospital with critical injuries. The Jeep’s passenger was also taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
As of Monday morning, the Jeep’s driver remained in critical condition, while the passenger was stable.
The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, including whether the driver of the Chevrolet was impaired.
