The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian near the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex Friday evening.

Officers responded around 7 p.m. to the 4600 block of Blue Ridge Cutoff near 46th Street, just north of Raytown Road, on a reported crash.

That’s just south of Kauffman Stadium and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

A preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV drove north from Raytown into Kansas City on Blue Ridge Cutoff when it struck a pedestrian in the road.

Police said in a news release that the pedestrian was either walking along the road or trying to cross when they were hit.

Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Police have not yet publicly identified the person who died.

According to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman, the driver of the SUV remained on scene after the crash and has been cooperating with the investigation.

DiMartino said in an email that the crash marks Kansas City’s 58th traffic fatality in 2025. That’s compared to 82 traffic deaths at this time last year.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
