Second person dies following fatal KC crash possibly caused by medical emergency
A second person has died following a Kansas City car crash on Oct. 29 near Broadway and Linwood boulevards that was potentially caused by a medical emergency.
The driver of the silver Dodge Journey involved in the crash was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital on Sunday afternoon, according to a press release from Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Phillip DiMartino.
The driver’s name was not released.
The passenger in the vehicle, 66-year-old Ramona Walters, died on Oct. 30 following the incident, a previous release from KCPD Capt. Jake Becchina said.
On Oct. 29, emergency personnel responded to reports of a vehicle crash near Linwood and Broadway boulevards at 12:17 p.m., according to a previous news release from Kansas City police.
A preliminary investigation revealed a silver Dodge Journey was traveling south on Broadway Boulevard when the driver “suffered a possible medical emergency,” Becchina said.
The car accelerated through the intersection of Linwood and Broadway boulevards before it struck a parked, unoccupied silver Lexus, Becchina said. The vehicle then traveled onto the sidewalk, where it struck a light pole and a Vietnam memorial.
The Dodge then traveled south through the grass before it struck the side of the VFW building and came to a stop, Becchina said.
The driver’s death marks the 57th traffic fatality of 2025 in Kansas City compared to 80 at this time last year, DiMartino said.
