Two in critical condition after possible medical emergency leads to car crash

Two people are in critical condition after a car crash in Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel responded to reports of a crash near Linwood and Broadway boulevards at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina.

A preliminary investigation found that a silver Dodge Journey was traveling south on Broadway Boulevard when the driver “suffered a possible medical emergency,” Becchina said.

The car accelerated through the intersection of Linwood and Broadway before striking a parked, unoccupied silver Lexus, Becchina said. The Dodge then traveled up on the sidewalk, struck a light pole and a Vietnam memorial.

The Dodge continued to travel south through the grass before striking the side of the VFW building and coming to a stop, Becchina said.

The driver and front-seat passenger of the Dodge were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both remain in “very critical condition,” Becchina said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, Becchina said.
