Kansas City’s streetcar extension is opening to riders. Follow live updates
After nearly a decade of planning, four years of construction and more than $350 million, the Main Street extension of the Kansas City Streetcar is opening to riders.
The grand opening ceremony is at 10 a.m. at the new Plaza stop of the extended line, which stretches from Union Station to the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After that, riders across the line will be able to board and ride all 6 miles of the extended track. Other public celebrations will follow.
City leaders have touted the extension as important to connecting many of the city’s entertainment, business and cultural landmarks and aiding the region’s growth and tourism.
At the ceremony and all along the line, Star journalists are bringing you updates on what people are saying and how the first day of full service is going.
