A handful of people Friday night heard and watched Chappell Roan’s concert in Kansas City for free, and no, they weren’t VIPs.
The huge video screen on the stage could be seen across the street from the National World War I Museum and Memorial where the Missouri native performed in front of thousands gathered on the lawn. With no assigned seating, those ticket-holders stood during Roan’s 90-minute set.
So did a few folks who stood on the sidewalks across the street where they could hear her.
“Never thought I’d be standing on Main listening to Chappell Roan for 20 minutes, but I did,” X user Chris Stritzel wrote.
Kansas City police don’t want large groups to gather on the nearby sidewalks. They left the sidewalks open to pedestrian traffic but blocked off other areas.
Fans, though, were undeterred, including one who did recon hours before the concert during Roan’s soundcheck. Before the concert people also posted videos of the views from their apartments and hotel rooms.
One TikTok user posted a photo of a greens pace across from Liberty Memorial that was blocked off by yellow crime tape to keep people from parking their bodies there.
“Don’t have tickets to Chappell Roan? Here’s the view from outside the club,” he wrote.
As the concert began, people found the music carried well beyond the lawn.
X user Stritzel, impressed by Roan’s voice, wrote: “The woman’s got range.”
Apparently in more ways than one.
